In 1646 this contract of service was completed, and he wasforewith engaged as an employee of Evert Pels, who was a native ofStettin, Germany. At this time hiscareer, or one phase of it, and the only one of record, is taken up inthe Court minutes of Rensselaerswyck, from which is gathered only a fewfacts, tending to prove the Patroon system indirectly through aversion ofits subjects was one of the direct means of colonizing N.Y. state inthose early days.
