Ralph Sloan says: "During the Revolutionary War Capt. John Sloan received orders to report with 13 men to Ramsour's Mill in Lincoln County. On Sunday morning, June 18, 1780, he, along with Davidson, Sharpe, Falls and Houston joined other troops from the Catawba Valley. The Tories outnumber them 3 to 1, but a retreat would encourage the Tories. They decided to march throughout the night and surprise the Tories at daybreak. At the end of fierce fighting, some with swords, about 70 were lost by the Patriots, including George and Andrew Davidson and Capt. John Sloan. A simple marker designates the graves of those who fell on the Battle of Ramsour's Mill. on Jun 20, 1780. Six Whig captains, including Capt. John Sloan, were buried at the site in Lincoln County."

ancestor John Sloan who was a Captain in the North Carolina Militia and
killed on June 20, 1780 at the Battle of Ramsour's Mill. I used a
Daughter of the American Revolution member's record copy to verify the
information back that far. John's father was Archibald Sloan SR II, his
father was Archibald Sloan Sr I, the one that came from Ireland.I've tried to find out more about the line in Ireland but it has been
