Hi Sam,

Julian's name was not Sussman. It was Zuesman. He was living in Canarsie and should be 70 this year. Did he call you Shaem? He was better than Jack the Hustler in 5 min. I believe he won at 5-3. Incidentally, I was able to score 75% v. Jack in 5 min. and beat Julian in 5 min. as well. Jack used to encounter people who did not want to play for money until they thought they could hustle him by getting rook odds in 5 min. Touch move was required, not touch clock (actual rules). He beat some rated experts at rook odds. As for giving odds, I had to invent games beyond piece, pawn, money, or move odds. For example, I created a game with 2 or 3 boards. Then besides odds of some pieces I would allow the opponent to have fantasy pieces while I played with only one king. Imagine a Chinese (size) army of three sets chasing one king. Check does not have to be respected unless there is only one king. I had to save mine while capturing two enemy kings and mating the last. This at odds like 13-2 minutes. When I won, spectators would do "Singing in the Rain," as if we were directed by Mel Brooks. Najdorf, who beat Jack every game in 5 min., took this game to South America about 1976. Now someone is trying to sell a double board game, but of course no new equipment is needed for it, just two sets.

I suppose you could offer a 1573 player pawn and 3 moves and time odds.

Lonnie
