The question which has been raised is that Anna is 16 years old - yet, she travels with her 27 year old boyfriend. Her parents are nowhere in sight.
The US Open Tennis Championship is taking place in Flushing, Queens, New York. The Queens District Attorney has noticed the age difference between Anna and her boyfriend. The Queens District Attorney has stated in comments quoted in the press that if he catches Anna and her boyfriend in bed together, the boyfriend will be subject to a possible ten years in prison on charges of statutory rape!
This bit of sensationalism has been seized upon by the New York Press. Every New York City tabloid newspaper has carried stories about this. The New York Post reports that Anna has been dubbed "The Lobbing Lolita" and various other titles by the public and the press.
This raises questions which ought to be addressed: In New York State it is illegal for a person over the age of 21 to have sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 17. Other states of the United States have similar laws. One wonders: Does any other jurisdiction or country of the world have similar laws? Or, is the United States of America the only country with such obviously stupid and ridiculous laws on the books?
