Alden was in a support aircraft, flying S 2 CONC uper Dumbo. Alden had signed up for this mis 2 CONC sion as a backup pilot to increase his number of missions so that he could get to go home ear 2 CONC ly. Other members of his regular crew objected. The B-29 which he regularly flew, number Circle X 53, is in th 2 CONC e video "From Pearl Harbor to Tokyo Bay". It is in the section called "Mining the Inland Sea" 2 CONC . Graham and his wife Elizabeth living in Afton, Iowa in the ho 2 CONC me of their son-in-law Wesley Jacobson, his wife Mary and five of their children. The eldes 2 CONC t doughter, Marjorie Jacobson (my mother), was away in college at the time, studying to becom 2 CONC e a medical doctor. 2 CONT 2 CONT Samuel and his wife lived the last several years of their lives in a small home in Orient, Io 2 CONC wa, adjacent to the home of their youngest daughter, Jennie, and her husband, Claude Bishop. 2 CONT 2 CONT My information comes from several sources. First and foremost from a suitcase found in my mot 2 CONC her's house which was "to be deposited into a suitable waste disposal site" by order of Judg 2 CONC e Michael Gamble of the Lynchburg Circuit Court issued in 1994 at the request of my brother 2 CONC , Creighton Sloan. 2 CONT 2 CONT That suitcase which I found and rescued contained the numerous old photos such as the photo 2 CONC s of my grandmother Mary Graham when she was a little girl in 1882 and her mother in 1864 2 CONC . I scanned and posted those photos on my web site in 1995 and that was the seed which starte 2 CONC d this, when people started writing me letters about them. 2 CONT 2 CONT http://www.samsloan.com/gg-mom.htm 2 CONT http://www.samsloan.com/gg-mom-2.htm 2 CONT 2 CONT Next, my brother Creighton sent me some information he had assembled, which was strange becau 2 CONC se Creighton has been fighting with me and our mother for 30 years and has never before or si 2 CONC nce sent me a friendly letter. 2 CONT 2 CONT I believe that what Creighton sent me was largely based on Philip Graham's book plus update 2 CONC s reflecting current family members and new children born. 2 CONT 2 CONT Then, I often get bits and pieces of information from people who see my web site and add a re 2 CONC lative or two. 2 CONT 2 CONT My grandmother Mary Graham married Wesley Jacobson, who was Swedish. On the Swedish side, I g 2 CONC et lots of letters because Wesley Jacobson's grandfather, Peter Cassel, led the first Swedis 2 CONC h settlement in Iowa and they are mentioned in history books, research papers, doctoral thesi 2 CONC s and so on, so I am constantly getting new information or inquiries about that. 2 CONT 2 CONT However, on the Graham side I believe that all my sources are the same original source, whic 2 CONC h is Philip Graham's book. 2 CONT 2 CONT In about 1959 in the summer I went to a golden wedding anniversary for one of my Graham relat 2 CONC ives in Northeastern Iowa. More than one hundred relatives were there. I wish I could remembe 2 CONC r who it was whose aniversary we were celebrating. 2 CONT 2 CONT We had an old family tree in the 1950s. According to this tree, which I never personally saw 2 CONC , we were related to the sister of John Paul Jones, the Scot captain who became American an 2 CONC d fought against the British in the War of 1812. 2 CONT 2 CONT My uncle Newell Jacobson who lived in Florida later told me that he had that family tree. How 2 CONC ever, Newell died in 1989 and I do not know what happened to the old family tree. I believe i 2 CONC t was made by a commercial company and not by a family member. 2 CONT 2 CONT Sam Sloan 1 CHAN 2 DATE 30 Mar 2003 3 TIME 01:00:00 0 @I62@ INDI 1 NAME Elizabeth Grace /THOMSON/ 2 SURN THOMSON 2 GIVN Elizabeth Grace 2 _MARNM Samuel Graham 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 25 May 1851 2 PLAC Dhuloch, Kirkcolm Parish, Wigtownshire, Scotland 2 SOUR @S3@ 3 PAGE FHL Film 1254353; National Archives Film T9-0353; Page 54A 1 DEAT 2 DATE 12 Jun 1932 2 PLAC Afton, Iowa 1 BURI 2 PLAC Orient Cemetery, Orient, Iowa 1 _UID ACAF939C16693945B456DA674F9620E4BB64 1 FAMS @F9@ 1 FAMC @F58@ 1 CENS 2 DATE 1880 2 PLAC Jackson, Madison, Iowa 2 SOUR @S3@ 3 PAGE FHL Film 1254353; National Archives Film T9-0353; Page 54A 3 DATA 4 TEXT Extract: 1880 United States Census 5 CONT Census Place: Jackson, Madison, Iowa 5 CONT Source: FHL Film 1254353; National Archives Film T9-0353; Page 54A 5 CONT Household: 5 CONT Rel Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace 5 CONT S.
