Sam Sloan with Hu Long Hua, World's Greatest Player of Chinese Chess

Hu Long Hua or, in Pinyin, Hu Rong Hua, is the "Bobby Fischer of Chinese Chess." He first won the All-China Championship, the equivalent of the World Championship, at the age of 15. This victory was regarded as a fluke, but he proved his detractors wrong by winning the event the next ten times in a row.

When the Cultural Revolution came, Chinese Chess was effectively banned. Hu Long Hua was given a job maintaining a swimming pool.

After the Cultural Revolution, Hu Long Hua stopped winning first prizes. He is still one of the six or seven top players but he never wins first prize any more.
